Rolex Day-Date 1803

The Day-Date 1803 is probably the most popular reference among vintage Day-Date watches. The 18XX reference series was introduced in the year 1960, and remained in production until approximately 1977. The precision of the Day-Date was provided by the famous Valjoux 72 movement, which was produced until 1974. Rolex also used this manual movement to drive their earlier Daytona's.

The Day-Date 1803 was given a casing that measures 36mm in diameter, which was produced in four types of precious metal: yellow gold, rosé gold, white gold and platina. Another specific characteristic of the 18XX-series, is that all dials feature a flared rim, which is referred to as a "Pie-pan" dial. There exists a large selection of dials, ranging from classic iterations like the gold "champagne" colour, to more fashionable and brightly coloured dials.

This Rolex Day-Date 1803, built in 1977, has been completely serviced. The originality and authenticity of the watch, carefully guarded by our watchmaker, of course remain intact. The watch is in a completely unpolished state. The champagne dial, in combination with its diamond setting, makes this watch a true classic. The 6-hour and 9-hour positions feature a baguette diamond. The watch has been fitted with a new olive-green suede strap.

Rolex Day-Date

The first Day-Date, also referred to as "President", was introduced in the year 1956. To this day, it remains as the signature status watch by Rolex. When Rolex first released the Day-Date, it was the first watch to both feature the day of the week on the 12-hour position, as well as the date on the 3-hour position. Another characteristic of the Day-Date is the famous President-bracelet which appeared on the market in 1966. This bracelet is almost as famous as the watch itself. The President-bracelet would unofficially become known as the "President" when a Day-Date was offered to American president Dwight Eisenhower by Rolex.
