Omega Seamaster 166.003 (1969)
Within Omega's current collection, the Seamaster is the brand's oldest line. The Omega Seamaster is based on the waterproof wristwatches designed for the British army at the end of World War II. In addition to robust and professional models, the Seamaster line also includes an extensive range of stylish dress watches. Over more than half a century, Omega has created a diverse range of Seamaster watches, specially designed for people looking for a reliable, elegant, durable and high-quality finished watch.
Another feature that should certainly not go unnoticed is the iconic seahorse engraving on the back of the watch. We also see this feature on the Omega Speedmaster, for example.
In the 1950s, Jean-Pierre Borle worked as an engraver at Omega. He was the craftsman behind the famous “Observatory” emblem on the back of the Omega Constellation, which depicts an observatory and eight stars. This design symbolizes the location of the chronometer tests (observatories), while the eight stars refer to the number of chronometric records set by Omega in 1931.
During a trip to Venice, Jean-Pierre Borle was inspired by the hippocampuses (seahorses) he saw on the gondolas. These images formed the basis for his next engraving. In 1958, the seahorse became the symbol of the Omega Seamaster, emphasizing the watch's water resistance.
The Omega Seamaster reference 166.003 we present here dates from approximately 1969 and is in beautiful condition. The silver-colored dial is completely clean and free of any imperfections. The original plexiglass with cyclops contains the characteristic Omega logo engraved into the glass.
The 34mm case remains razor sharp and appears unpolished, with its original lines and curves beautifully preserved, something that makes us very happy!

Omega
La Generale Watch Co. Omega's parent company was founded in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland by 23-year-old Louis Brandt, who was assembling watches. In 1866 Louis Brandt died and the company was continued by the two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar and they decided to have the assembly done at one location. The brothers made enormous steps forward and in 1894 the brothers introduced a new caliber: the well-known 19-ligne caliber. The caliber was so accurate and successful that the brothers decided to change their company name to "Omega Watch Co." in 1903. Since 1998, Omega has been owned by the Swatch Group under the name Omega SA.
