Omega Speedmaster – Automatic reduced

We all know Omega's iconic Speedmaster. This model was introduced in 1957 and designed for racecar drivers. Because the Speedmaster is one of the most famous models produced by Omega, countless variants have been produced over the years. The Speedmaster Reduced, which was introduced in 1988, is one of those variants. The Reduced is a smaller version of other Speedmaster models and is not equipped with a handwound movement, but an automatic movement. At the end of the eighties, Omega changed its product coding, meaning the Reduced models are often referred to as ref 3510.50.00. In 2006, Omega released an upgrade for the then latest Speedmater Reduced, which is known as reference 3539.50.00, featuring saffireglass. After 2009, the production of Reduced models was ceased. We, however, still love the Speedmaster Reduced and its modest 39mm size.

Omega

La Generale Watch Company, Omega's parent company, was founded in 1848 in the Swiss city La Chaux de Fonds by 23-year-old Louis Brandt. In 1866, Brandt passed away, leaving his company in the hands of his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar. The two brothers brought many fresh, innovative ideas to the company, which led to the development of a new caliber in 1894: the famous 19-lignecaliber. This caliber was so precise, and subsequently, succesful, that the brothers decided to change their company name in 1903; the year "Omega Watch Co." was born. Since 1998, Omega is owned by the Swatch Group, under the name Omega SA.
