Rolex Air-King
During and after World War II, Rolex produced a number of ''Air'' models for the British Royal Air Force. In 1945 the Rolex Air-King was released. The 34mm case was considered "large" and was therefore called "King".
The first Rolex Air-King was released under the reference 4499. In 1975, Rolex introduced the ref. 5500 that would define the Air-King line for the next 37 years with enough variation. For example, the popular gray dial and the black dial were produced for years. The Air-King is also known for its many corporate stamped dials. A well-known example is the Dominos dial. A unique collaboration for me. Franchisees have been incentivized for years by Dominos to achieve sales targets, with the reward of an Air-King stamped with the Dominos logo on the dial.
In 1989, Rolex introduced the Air-King ref. 14000 as an upgrade of the ref. 5500. The watch featured a new caliber 3000 movement. In the year 2000, the movement was updated with the caliber 3130. In 2007, Rolex discontinued the 14000 series.
This vintage Rolex Air-King 14000 dates from 1996 and is in a completely unpolished and original condition. The Oyster bracelet shows a little to no stretch for its age. The 34 mm case in combination with the black dial and sporty Oyster bracelet, makes this Rolex Air-King a true sporty and stylish everyday classic. The watch has been fully checked by our watchmaker and comes with a 12-month warranty by 10 over 10.
