Rolex Datejust 1601 'Wide-Boy' 1970

In the 1960s and 1970s, Rolex produced the 4-digit 16XX series. This Rolex Datejust 1601 from the year 1970 is in beautiful condition. The case is thick, and the lugs are beautifully sharp along with the 18K white gold bezel. The folded jubilee bracelet shows stretch for its age, but is certainly still in nice condition. The movement has been fully serviced. the watch comes with a 1-year mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.

Wide-Boy

Characteristic of the 16XX series, these were fitted with the famous ''pie-pan'' dial. With vintage watches, details are very important, in fact they are everything. You may notice that this vintage Datejust does not have the usual indexes and hands. The watch features the ''wide-boy'' dial and matching hands. The term ''wide-boy'' refers to a special feature of the dial configuration. The dial layout is different from the standard version, as it has wider hands and indexes compared to the regular Datejust 1601. If you ask us, a super configuration which you don't come across very often!

No-Lume

Rolex dials were printed by manufacturers such as Stern, Beyeler, Lemrich and Singer, and featured a ''T-swiss-T'' print as standard. Some Asian countries, such as Japan, maintained strict rules when importing products with radioactive contents. These countries were therefore supplied with dials without tritium and closed hands. The tritium was added later because it was only later decided to which country these were exported.

Datejust

In the year 1945, the first Datejust was introduced to commemorate Rolex's 40th anniversary under the reference 4467. This was the first self-winding watch with a waterproof case that also displayed the date and automatically changed it at midnight. The Datejust was equipped with the fluted bezel and the renowned Jubilee bracelet, which was specially designed for the Datejust. The date was indicated at the 3 o'clock position. Ten years later, in 1955, the date window was fitted with a Cyclops lens, magnifying the date up to 2.5 times.

Most iconic Rolex models were produced as tool watches. However, the Datejust had no specific purpose. This model was meant to be a classic, reliable, and versatile watch suitable for any occasion in daily life.
