Rolex Datejust 1603 Ghost Dial

In the 1960s and 1970s, Rolex produced the 4-digit 16XX Datejust. These Datejusts are the perfect example of the perfect vintage daily beater. A beautiful mix between both classic and sporty. The reference 1601 was fitted with the white gold fluted bezel and the reference 1603 was fitted with the steel engine turned bezel. There were different dial colors and configurations. The most distinctive configuration is the well-known pie-pan dial.

You don't often hear of a Rolex Datejust that haunts its owner. But they really do exist! The letters sometimes disappear without you realizing it and the dial changes from light gray to dark gray. This Rolex Datejust reference 1603 from the year 1976 features the special and spooky Ghost dial. The watch has been serviced by Rolex in 2006 and 2017 and comes with its original Rolex service papers. The case, together with the jubilee strap, which shows no stretch for its age, is in excellent condition. The case and the jubilee strap are both service/replacement parts. The original grey ghost dial is re-lumed, but in excellent condition. The watch is almost in new condition, but still retains its vintage features. This cool 1603 comes with a 12-month warranty by 10 over 10.

Rolex Datejust

In the year 1945 the first Datejust was introduced under the 4467-reference, honouring the 40-year existence of Rolex. This was the first self-winding watch that featured both a watertight case, as well as a date-window that automatically changed the date after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with a serrated bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet, which was designed especially for the Datejust. The date was indicated on the 3-hours position. 10 years later, in 1955, the datewindow was equipped with a cyclops lens that magnified the date up to two and a half times.

The most iconic models by Rolex were made to be used as toolwatches. The Datejust, however, did not serve a specific purpose. This model simply needed to be a classic, reliable, daily watch, suitable for every occasion in everyday life.
