Rolex Datejust 16030 'Slate Grey / Ghost Dial'

In the 1960s and 1970s, the 4-digit 16XX Datejust series were introduced by Rolex. This series featured the 1570 movement. In the late '70s, the 5-digit reference were introduced by Rolex. The Datejust models with the 5-digit reference such as this 16030 feature an upgraded 3035 movement with quick-set date function which allows the date to be moved manually. This makes the watch a lot more user-friendly and perfect for everyday use. The difference with the Datejust 16014, for example, which features a white gold fluted bezel, is that the 16030 features a steel engine-turned bezel. This one is no longer produced by Rolex.

It's fair to say that a numerous different dial variants have appeared for the Datejust over the years. Still, the steel 16030 models were given a relatively conventional selection of dials to choose from, such as black, white, blue, linen textured, tapestry and the silver colour which is often seen. Yet we cannot forget a special dial. You don't often hear about a Rolex Datejust starting to haunt you. But it really does exist! The font sometimes disappears without you noticing and the dial changes from light grey to dark grey. This vintage Rolex Datejust 16030 features the unusual and spooky grey ghost dial. Something that makes us very happy again!

This beautiful vintage Rolex Datejust 16030 dates from the year 1987 and is truly in beautiful condition. The unique grey dial makes this watch a real eye-catcher, but also suitable for daily use and any occasion. Of course we cannot forget the discoloured tritium which shows a beautiful beige discolouration on the hands and the dial! The 36mm case is thick and the lugs are razor-sharp. The Jubilee bracelet shows a slight acceptable stretch for its age, but is still in super condition. The 3035 movement of this beautiful vintage Datejust 16030 has been serviced. The watch comes with a 1-year mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.

Datejust 

In the year 1945 the first Datejust was introduced in honour of the 40-year existence of Rolex, under the reference 4467. This was the first self-winding watch with a watertight case that also indicated the date. It even automatically transitioned the date after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with a serrated bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet, especially designed for the Datejust. The date was placed on the 3-hour mark. Ten years later, in 1955, the date-window was given a "cyclops lens", which magnifies the date up to two and a half times.

Rolex's most iconic models were produced to function as "tool watches". The Datejust, however, did not have a specific purpose. This model was supposed to be a classic, reliable, everyday watch, suitable for any occasion in day-to-day life.
