There is something special about collecting vintage Rolex watches. It is often the details that distinguish one piece from another, from unique case materials and shapes to the refined aesthetics of the dial. These are the features that immediately catch the eye. It is also immediately noticeable that this (neo)vintage Rolex Datejust 16233 does not have a standard dial. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful dials we have had for a Datejust 16233 at 10 over 10!

The Mother of Pearl dial (also known as nacre) is made from a natural material sourced from the inside of shells, particularly oysters and other mollusks. The shimmer is impressive: with subtle color changes depending on how the light hits it. In fact, the dial is hardly captureable in photos; you really have to see it in person! To top it all off, the mother-of-pearl dial is framed by diamond indices.

With the introduction of the Datejust, the iconic five-piece Jubilee bracelet was also launched. Initially only in solid gold, later also in bicolor. Buyers at the time could choose between a Jubilee or an Oyster bracelet, although the latter is rarely found on the Datejust 16233. This piece perfectly shows how an elegant vintage Datejust should be: the combination of a steel case, an 18K yellow gold bezel, the unique MOP dial, and the gold-steel Jubilee bracelet create a stylish and iconic look.

This beautiful (neo)vintage Rolex Datejust 16233 MOP (Mother of Pearl) dates from 2001, was sold in 2002, and is still in very good condition. The 36 mm steel case, along with the 18K yellow gold fluted bezel, is still beautifully sharp. The Jubilee bracelet shows acceptable stretch but is still certainly in good condition. The watch comes from a collector/customer who purchased it about two years ago from a well-known vintage dealer in the Netherlands, has hardly worn it, and also had a movement service performed there.

The watch has been checked and keeps time with a deviation of 0 to -1 seconds per day and an amplitude of 286/291, meaning a full service was not necessary. Ready to enjoy for the coming years!

Rolex Datejust

In 1945, the first Datejust was introduced to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Rolex under reference 4467. This was the first self-winding watch with a waterproof case that also indicated the date and automatically changed after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with the fluted bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet that was specially designed for the Datejust. The date was displayed at the 3 o'clock position. 10 years later, in 1955, the date window was equipped with a cyclops lens that magnified the date up to 2.5 times.

Most iconic models of Rolex were produced to be used as tool watches. However, the Datejust had no specific purposes. This model was meant to be a classic, reliable, and everyday watch suitable for any occasion in daily life.
