Rolex Datejust 16234 'Linen Dial' 1991

After the 160XX reference series appeared on the market in 1977, Rolex introduced the 162XX reference series 11 years later in 1988 which continued until approximately 2006. The 3035 caliber changed to the 3135 caliber and was further perfected. This caliber was Rolex's longest-used caliber. Rolex also stopped with the use of plexiglass. The 162XX Datejust series was fitted with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. This is a wonderful mix of vintage with a modern touch!

It's safe to say that over the years a number of different dial variants have appeared for the Datejust. The 16234 steel models were given a relatively conventional selection of dial colours to choose from, such as the traditional white, silver, rich blue and black dial. But it is often said: less is more!

This Rolex Datejust is a true eye-catcher with its linen dial which, together with the tritium on the hands and dial, is nicely toned to a beige hue. This watch is a perfect mix of vintage and modern. This Rolex Datejust 16234 from the year 1991 is truly in a beautiful condition. The case and white gold bezel are very sharp and the jubilee bracelet shows little to no stretch for its age. The watch comes with a 1-year mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.

Datejust

In the year 1945 the first Datejust was introduced in honour of the 40-year existence of Rolex, under the reference 4467. This was the first self-winding watch with a watertight case that also indicated the date. It even automatically transitioned the date after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with a serrated bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet, especially designed for the Datejust. The date was placed on the 3-hour mark. Ten years later, in 1955, the date-window was given a "cyclops lens", which magnifies the date up to two and a half times.

Rolex's most iconic models were produced to function as "tool watches". The Datejust, however, did not have a specific purpose. This model was supposed to be a classic, reliable, everyday watch, suitable for any occasion in day-to-day life.
