Rolex Datejust 16234 'Silver dial'

After the 160XX reference series appeared on the market in 1977, Rolex introduced the 162XX reference series 11 years later in 1988, which continued until around 2006. The 3035 caliber was replaced by the 3135 caliber and further perfected. This caliber was Rolex's longest-used movement. Rolex also stopped using plexiglass and equipped the 162XX Datejust series with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. In the late 1990s, Rolex ceased using tritium and began equipping all dials with Super-Luminova from the year 2000.

One could argue that over the years, a variety of dial variants have appeared for the Datejust. However, the steel models of the 16234 had a relatively conventional selection of dial colors to choose from, such as the traditional white, black, deep blue, and, as with this Datejust, the silver dial. But as often said: less is more!

This Rolex Datejust 16234 dates back to the year 1997. The watch is in beautiful condition! The case, along with the 18K white gold fluted bezel, is still beautifully sharp. Something that also delights us greatly is the silver dial. It has discolored along with the hands and exhibits a beautiful champagne hue. The Jubilee bracelet shows acceptable stretch for its age. This stunning neo-vintage Rolex Datejust 16234 comes with an outer box, inner box, Rolex pouch, hangtags, Rolex papers, and a 1-year mechanical 10 over 10 warranty.

Datejust

In the year 1945 the first Datejust was introduced in honour of the 40-year existence of Rolex, under the reference 4467. This was the first self-winding watch with a watertight case that also indicated the date. It even automatically transitioned the date after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with a serrated bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet, especially designed for the Datejust. The date was placed on the 3-hour mark. Ten years later, in 1955, the date-window was given a "cyclops lens", which magnifies the date up to two and a half times.

Rolex's most iconic models were produced to function as "tool watches". The Datejust, however, did not have a specific purpose. This model was supposed to be a classic, reliable, everyday watch, suitable for any occasion in day-to-day life.
