Rolex Datejust 1601 'Sigma Dial'
In the 60s and 70s Rolex produced the 4-digit 16XX series. This Rolex Datejust reference 1601 dates back to the year 1973. The classic folded Jubilee bracelet in combination with the sharp 18K white gold bezel, makes this Datejust 1601 elegant, timeless and perfect for daily use.
Characteristic of the 16XX series, is that they were given the well-known "pie-pan" dial, but this Datejust 1601 does not have a normal silver ''pie-pan'' dial. When it comes to vintage watches, small details are very important - in fact, they are everything. You may wonder what the two small round marks next to the ''T-siwss-T'' print are? These marks are often seen on dials from the 70's. The small marks are actually the small Greek letter Sigma. Dials marked with these signs are therefore also called 'Sigma' dials. The Sigma symbols represented a trademark and evidence that the hands and indexes on a watch were made of solid gold.
This Rolex Datejust 1601 is truly in a beautiful condition. The case is thick, and the lugs, together with the 18K white gold bezel, are still perfectly sharp. The folded jubilee strap shows some normal stretch for its age, but is certainly still in excellent condition. The tritium on the silver Sigma dial, together with the hands, has turned into a beautiful orange/brown colour, also known as pumpkin patina. This combination makes us really happy! This beautiful vintage Datejust 1601 comes with 1 year mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.

Datejust
In the year 1945 the first Datejust was introduced under the 4467-reference, honouring the 40-year existence of Rolex. This was the first self-winding watch that featured both a watertight case, as well as a date-window that automatically changed the date after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with a serrated bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet, which was designed especially for the Datejust. The date was indicated on the 3-hours position. 10 years later, in 1955, the datewindow was equipped with a cyclops lens that magnified the date up to two and a half times.
The most iconic models by Rolex were made to be used as toolwatches. The Datejust, however, did not serve a specific purpose. This model simply needed to be a classic, reliable, daily watch, suitable for every occasion in everyday life.
